The Birmingham Area Cycling Campaign

Your LOCAL Voice for Cycling

'Push Bikes' is primarily the campaigning group for all cyclists who ride in Birmingham. Whether you cycle on the canals, or via the road network, to make actual journeys or just for leisure, 'Push Bikes' calls for a better deal for the city's cyclists.

Push Bikes regularly meets and corresponds with Birmingham City Council and British Waterways on all matters that concern the city's many cyclists - but there could and should be many more!

Push Bikes also holds regular social rides.

Push Bikes publishes the latest on all campaigns and dates of social rides in its quarterly newsletter and on its web site http://www.pushbikes.org.uk

What we do for all local cyclists

b Meet with the Cycling Advisory Group of Birmingham City Council. The CAG meets every three months and is a gathering of BCC officers who have cycling within their brief, plus representatives of other bodies with an interest in cycling eg. Sustrans, CSV Environment, local CTC groups. Push Bikes always attends. The designated chair of the CAG is Councillor David Radcliffe.

A report of the most recent CAG is in 'Push Bikes' latest newsletter.
b Put questions to and attend British Waterways Canal Users Forums. We attend the Central Shires meetings in Lapworth. Although dominated by boaters and their issues, Push Bikes has tabled questions on towpath maintenance, the need for the Cycling Permit, sloped and stepped canal access points and frequent barriers.
b Respond to proposed highway changes that may affect cyclists. We receive these either as proposed new Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) or complete Plans for new road layouts. We respond to these if we see any issues that would affect cycling.
b Request highway changes to improve local cycling. Latest issues are for a parallel alternative to the Hagley Road, and improvements to the Belgrave Middleway crossing.
b Attend public events that will promote cycling. During the year we attend road safety and environmental exhibitions in the city centre and National Bike Week events.
b PB meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Friends of the Earth building, Allison Street Digbeth at 7:30pm. All cyclists are welcome to attend.
Membership of Push Bikes brings....

b A quarterly NEWSLETTER. sent by post to all members, or by email on request.
b Money-saving DISCOUNTS from some cycle shops.
