Hello! This site is for everyone who would like to cycle in Birmingham - but doesn't!
Why not leave that car at home sometimes and cycle those short or local journeys?
!
There is a poor perception of cycling in Birmingham, often expressed by those who do not (but may like to) cycle - 'dangerous', 'too much fast traffic', 'too few cycle lanes or facilities'. But any visit to the city will find occupied cycle stands, cycles secured in many other places, some cycle lanes and other priority measures, even cycles being ridden! So not everyone shares the concerns mentioned above. This site may help to change YOUR percepion too and start using that bike in the garage instead of the car - for some journeys - occasionally? Click on the images to access the other sections.

Free, practical advice and training to National Standards. Any advice from basic balancing and control to riding in traffic.
First questions - which bicycle.... tourer, mountain, hybrid? There are more, but click here for the main differences between tourer and mountain, how to determine best frame size, finding your tyre size and maximum tyre pressure markings.
Next question - where can I cycle? Most roads and routes where cycling is permitted. Note that cycling on the pavement is NOT permitted (except where designated). But the best for the new cyclist is probably a canal towpath. Four canals come into Birmingham, we look at how good (or bad) they are for cycling.
But canals don't go everywhere. Yet many cyclists are reluctant to use the roads, citing the quantity and speed of traffic as making the roads 'too dangerous' for cyclists. Here is some basic advice for cycling a road journey - what are the 'Primary' and 'Secondary' riding positions? What is a 'Compulsory' cycle lane? Find out here!
The Birmingham Area Cycling campaign. Push Bikes is run by keen cyclists and meets with the Council and others to press for local changes for the cyclist. Click on the logo to find out a bit more.
